What is the SAWC/WHS?

The SAWC is the Annual Symposium for the Association for Advancement of Wound Care and the Wound Healing Society Meeting. It is an annual conference specifically dedicated to the wounds and wound-related issues. The largest conference of its kind, the meeting is an informational hub for multidisciplinary wound care clinicians and researchers.

The SAWC/WHS comprises four days of educational sessions, meetings, interactive events, and social gatherings, including a pre- and post-conference. This the 2008 SAWC/WHS will be held April 24–27, in San Diego, Calif.

What Do All of the Acronyms Associated With This Meeting Mean?

The SAWC/WHS meeting is associated with several wound care associations and partners.

SAWC — Symposium on Advanced Wound Care. The official name of this wound care symposium.

WHS — Wound Healing Society. The SAWC’s partnering association.

AAWC - — Association for the Advancement of Wound Care. A partnering association that holds their official meeting at the SAWC.

NACCME — North American Center For Continuing Medical Education. The accreditation association for this wound care meeting, as well as a hub for continuing medical education offerings.

HMP Communications — the medical publishing company that manages and hosts the SAWC/WHS meeting.

Can I Earn Educational Credit?

Continuing education credit is available for many specialties, including doctors, nurses, podiatrists, pharmacists, and dieticians. The number of credits you receive will depend the number of sessions you attend. For example, if you attend only the first two days, you will receive fewer credits than if you attended the entire four days.

Can I Attend a Single Day or Days of the Conference?

You can choose to register for day passes or the entire conference. If you register for a single day, you admission pass will permit access to whatever elements of the conference are available that day — exhibit hall, general sessions, parties — and much more.

What are the Pre- and Post-Conferences?

SAWC/WHS attendees can choose to participate in the optional pre- or post-conference sessions. These sessions are an additional $100.00, and offer participants extra continuing education credits. Registrants are allowed to select either pre- or post-conference sessions or both.

How Do I Register?

Registration is easy and will begin in early 2008. You have several options (online, fax/mail, and on site). You are asked to provide basic registration and payment information and to select sessions. Once registration has been finalized, you will be informed of additional opportunities, including satellite meetings.

Why Do I Need to Know What Sessions I Want to Attend?

As part of the registration process, we ask what sessions you would like to attend in order to gauge classroom space. However, you can change your mind for all of the main conference sessions. Some additional offerings, such as satellite meetings and pre- and post-conference sessions will require passes and registrants will need to update those scheduling preferences when amending schedules.

Is There a Specific Group of Classes Suggested?

The SAWC/WHS offers a color-coded list of sessions according to educational interests. By using this guide, you can easily select a field of interest. As with all main sessions, you can still move between educational tracks, should you later change your mind.

Do I Need to Register Before Before Booking My Hotel?

You do not need to be registered for the SAWC/WHS before booking your hotel. If you feel more comfortable about obtaining accommodations first, please do so.

Will There Be Company Representatives I Can Talk To?

One of the most beneficial aspects of the SAWC/WHS is our Exhibit Hall/exhibition hours. During these dedicated hours, you can visit hundreds of companies, sample products, and attend educational demonstrations.

How Much Does the SAWC/WHS Cost?

The cost of registering for the 2008 SAWC/WHS conference is $450 for physicians and $400 for other wound care clinicians. You must register according to your profession in order to earn continuing educational credits for that profession.

Day passes are available for $200.00. Pre- and post-conference sessions are available for $100 each.

A 20% discount is given to members of AAWC. You must be a member in order to receive your discount. Registration for AAWC will not be an option during the SAWC registration process. To first register for AAWC, visit their website.

Student attendees are eligible for a $100 discount on their registration. This discount cannot be combined with any other offer.

Other expenses may include travel, hotel, transfers, and other related costs. Many meals at the SAWC/WHS are included. Optional satellite sessions also provide meals for participants. For a budget guide, click here.

Are Meals Provided?

Many meals are provided during the conference. In the morning, a continental breakfast is provided during the poster sessions. Lunch (and dinner on Opening Night) is provided in the Exhibit Hall during scheduled hours. In addition, all satellite sessions include meals.

Where is The Meeting Located? Is it Convenient to Local Attractions?

This year’s Symposium will be held in the San Diego Convention Center, conveniently located in the city’s gas lamp district. All conference hotels are near the convention center as well as numerous dining and entertainment options. Blocks of rooms have been reserved our attendees. What Are Satellite Sessions?

Satellite Sessions are additional educational sessions provided by participating companies. These sessions are offered free of charge; however, space is limited and additional registration is required. Registration for these sessions typically begins in late spring. Registered Symposium attendees will receive invitations to satellite sessions and asked to register.

Satellite meetings may be accredited or non-accredited. For more information on these particular sessions, refer to the event descriptions once satellite registration is available.

What are Poster Sessions?

Poster Sessions & Oral Abstract Sessions are opportunities for attendees to exhibit clinical findings and study results. All attendees are eligible to submit one or more abstracts. All submissions are reviewed by a panel of experts. Authors selected to present are given space to present their findings to attendees.

The submission deadline for poster and oral abstracts for the 2008 Symposium is December 7, 2007.
