Difference in pain between atraumatic silicone dressings at removal from punch graft wounds Baldur Baldursson, MD, PhD We wanted to compare the pain at dressing changes between three silicone dressings; a novel design hyper-absorptive silicone foam dressing* and two established silicone dressings: a foam** and a net*** dressing. .The pain was measured when the dressings were peeled off donor site wounds produced when performing a punch graft operation for the treatment of chronic ulcers. The visual assessment scale was used to measure the pain. The pain at dressing changes four days after the operation was used as an indicator. Ten patients completed the study; every patient tested all three dressings at the same time. When the VAS points were added, the novel silicone dressing* gave least pain followed by the foam** and the net*** dressing, respectively. The difference in pain at dressing removal, between the novel silicone dressing* and the silicone net*** dressing, on the fifth day, was significant. The difference between the novel silicone dressing* and the silicone foam dressing** did not reach significance .*Gentleheal¨ Ossur .
