The role of the nurse consultant in tissue viability in the United Kingdom across health boundaries Mark Collier, BA(Hons), United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, UK This presentation will highlight the role of a Nurse Consultant for Tissue Viability in the United Kingdom within a proactive multi-disciplinary team, illustrating the many roles that have to be encompassed on a daily basis such as the following:..Consultancy to all members of the MDT.Acting as a role model - promoting ‘evidence based' practice.The facilitation of relevant education.Stimulating and undertaking relevant research.Acting as a change agent.Being responsible for strategic developments/policy making.The development of relevant clinical guidelines [after Storr G (1988)] Terms used and roles will be discussed in detail, especially the clinical involvement of the Nurse Consultant (illustrated by a number of clinical slides) and compared with the roles that are undertaken by other Wound Care Specialists in a number of other European countries and the United States of America The opportunities for sharing experiences and the organisation of educational exchange programmes will be introduced. |
