Improving quality of case study presentations

Case studies are increasingly becoming popular within the wound care industry for rapid communication of information and clinical experiences. While case studies do not replace the need for rigorous collection of controlled clinical data, they are both appropriate and useful for stimulating new thought and research. A well presented case study requires the collection of basic clinical information and quality photographs. Attention must also be paid to patient privacy and consent issues. Unfortunately, many clinicians are inexperienced in the collection of clinical data or the art of clinical photography. The objective of this presentation is fourfold: 1) to outline the basic clinical information that should be captured in a quality case study report, 2) to review the regulatory and legal requirements for the collection of protected data, 3) to review and help correct the most common mistakes clinicians make in clinical photography, and 4) to provide basic guidelines for summarizing case studies in poster format.
