INTENDED LEARNERS

This conference is designed for physicians, nurses, physical therapists, researchers, scientists, podiatrists, and dietitians across all practice-settings involved in the prevention, treatment and management of patients with wounds, and those interested in the latest research findings that are relevant to tissue repair and wound care.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Develop strategies for advancing wound care as a professional practice and career.
  • Employ an interdisciplinary approach to the prevention and treatment of chronic wounds.
  • Describe the comprehensive management of patients with lower extremity wounds.
  • Provide optimal healthcare delivery through improved understanding of reimbursement, quality measures, and the use of novel wound care delivery technologies.
  • Implement the latest best-practice strategies to prevent and manage pressure ulcers.
  • Describe various factors that inhibit wound healing including medical comorbidities, commonly used drugs and devices, and patient behavioral challenges.
  • Explore challenging cases of difficult-to-heal wounds in which current and emerging wound therapies were used.
  • Differentiate between acute and post-acute care services and organizations and describe how to better coordinate care across the spectrum.

In support of improving patient care, North American Center for Continuing Medical Education (NACCME) is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards and requirements for approval of providers of continuing education in podiatric medicine through a joint provider agreement between North American Center for Continuing Medical Education, LLC (NACCME) and the Wound Healing Society.  NACCME is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. NACCME has approved this activity for a maximum of 27.25 continuing education contact hours.

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS

The course has been approved by Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 2.7 CEUs.

  • California Physical Therapy: The Medical Sciences Foundation has approved this course for 27.25 continuing education hours for California physical therapists (Course Approval #: 6606).
  • Louisiana Physical Therapy Board: This course has been approved for 27 hours.

ETHICS CREDIT HOURS 

Certain states require that clinicians claim medical ethics credit each year as part of their continuing education requirements. To fulfill these educational requirements, SAWC has begun offering sessions that provide ethics credit. The designated sessions applicable for medical ethics credit is outlined in the online agenda.

NACCME estimates approximately 3.00 contact hours of this program fulfill ethics requirements.

Requirements for Credit

To be eligible for documentation of credit for each session attended, participants must participate in the full activity and complete the online general survey and the online evaluation form for each session by May 9, 2017. Once done, participants may immediately print documentation of credit.
